Preparing for an Upcoming Move
Preparing for your upcoming move doesn’t need to be as daunting as it might initially seem. If you’ve been in your home for many years, however, you’ve probably accumulated things that you don’t want to take with you.
Here’s a checklist to help you work through what you need to do to prepare for your move:
- Pantry: go through all your food items and give away cans you’ll never eat. Throw out all expired food (including pasta and spices).
- Kitchen cabinets: do you have food storage containers without lids? Throw them out! No use packing up useless containers and taking them to your next home.
- Cleaning supplies: cleaning supplies often have expiration dates. Make sure you’re not holding onto anything that has already expired.
- Linens: is there a set of sheets you never use? Donate it to your local thrift store. The same goes for towels, pillowcases, blankets, and other linens that you’re not getting any use out of.
I bet you can spot a theme here. Our advice can be summed up as this: make sure to go through your belongings and don’t be afraid to get rid of stuff! Holding onto things because they have a tiny bit of sentimental value or because you think you’ll use them again someday just clutters up your life and makes it that much harder to move.
