Rescuing a Moving Scam Victim

“Our parent company called us to be the origin agent on a Move Rescue customer. The customer had searched online for a mover to move her goods from Denver to Virginia. She choose an online Miami broker for her move because the price was the cheapest.

“The broker tended the move to a local Denver company, Golden Hand. Golden Hand picked up her household goods from a self storage unit and moved it to their trailer parked in their yard. At this time they told the customer that the shipment was bigger and heavier than what he was told, and that it would cost $3000 more. She was already in Virginia.

“The customer felt she was being scammed and called the Attorney General in VA who put her in touch with FBI, who then contacted Move Rescue. For several months the FBI requested that the customer fly to Denver to make a case against the company.

“PUC Colorado was already investigating other “shipment held hostage” claims. They finally got enough evidence to put into motion the final steps to claim her shipment and others, and bring this company down. Move Rescue called on a Wednesday to confirm we could pick up the shipment the following Thursday.

“The customer flew in to meet our crew at the movers yard. She was wired, and the FBI was down the street videoing. Golden Hand told the customer to pay $3000 cash. She already paid $2000 for the original quote, and the scamming mover had hit her credit card the day before for another $3000; he was trying to double-dip her.

“She gave him the money and we backed up the truck and started loading. The scam mover jump into our truck and started throwing her goods into our truck. He then became very irate and accused our crew of stealing the $3000 she just gave him and called the police.

“At this point the customer got on her cellphone to the FBI and asked them to call off the police. However, the FBI let the situation continue. The police came and searched our mover; the search, of course, turned up nothing so the cops left. The scammer mover came out of the house and claimed he misplaced money but it was found.

“We finished loading and left, and the customer left as well. The next day at high noon the FBI raided the scamming mover and confiscated all computer and papers, and arrested three to four people. The customer parked down the street and watched the whole thing unfold!.

“The scammer mover had multiple customers’ worldly possession held hostage. One at a time, we work to eliminate scammers and unethical companies that take advantage of innocent families.”

Valentine’s Day in Denver: Romantic Bars

Maybe you’ve decided to make dinner for your sweetheart at home, but after eating the two of you would like to go out and get a drink. As one of the oldest moving companies in Denver, we’ve had a long time to discover the best bars that Denver has to offer. Check out our choices below!

• The Cruise Room: The Cruise Room is one of Denver’s oldest and most interesting bars. Known for its martinis, this art-deco bar, located inside the Oxford Hotel, has been relatively untouched since it opened in 1933. The frescos are stunning, and the drinks are great!


• The Irish Snug: Not only is the Irish Snug a fun Denver bar to hang out at with your friends, but it can also be a great place to go on a date. If you can secure one of the ‘snugs,’ then you and your date get your very own little room, with direct access to the bartender!


• Potager: Getting a table at Potager requires you to be there right when they open, but there’s a chance that you can secure a spot at their bar. Potager has been around for about fifteen years, has an excellent wine selection, a romantic setting, and incredible dishes and desserts.

Valentine’s Day in Denver: Best Views of Denver

We love the Denver skyline, especially at night. Check out our choices for the best views of Denver and the Denver skyline. Since it’s February, and will probably be cold outside, we’ll only mention great views that are enclosed, so you and Valentine can stay warm!

• Hotel VQ Bar: Denver’s Hotel VQ, formerly the Red Lion, boasts one of the best views of the Denver skyline from its top-floor bar. Though the bar itself has a sports theme (and your date might not like that on Valentine’s Day!) we highly recommend going there for the view.


• Peak’s Lounge at the Downtown Hyatt: This (enclosed) rooftop bar has stunning views of the city, and this Valentine’s Day Peak’s Lounge is offering a chocolate and wine pairing, from February 10 through 14.


• Linger: Denver’s hot new bar and restaurant, Linger, offers great views of the city. While the bar and restaurant are both usually packed, if you can squeeze in for a drink you’ll be duly impressed by the view. Located in the old Olinger Mortuary space, Linger is hip, tasty, and impressive.

Even if you can’t get a dinner reservation for Valentine’s Day, hopefully this list will help you pick a fun Denver spot to hang out at with your special somebody on February 14th!

Our last blog post focused on the history of the Denver Broncos, one of Denver’s most well-known institutions.This week we’re excited to talk about the National Western Stock Show, which is happening right now in our city, and brings to Denver people from all over the United States.

The first National Western Stock Show was held in 1906, and since then it has grown to be one of the most well-known stock shows and rodeo events in the country.

In 2006, the Stock Show brought in a record crowd to celebrate 100 years. Some of the most well-attended events at the stock show include ‘the Citizen of the West banquet, the Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale, the Auction of Junior Livestock Champions, Children Ranch land, Pony Trails interactive education area, Mexican Rodeo Extravaganza, the Martin Luther King Junior African-American Heritage Rodeo, Professional Bull Riding performances, An Evening of Dancing Horses dressage and reining demonstrations, Wild West Shows, Super Dogs, Dodge Freestyle Reining competition, Jack Daniel’s Grand Pr-ix, Downtown Denver Stock Show Parade and the International Livestock Congress. The Professional Bull Riders (PBR) also holds its Touring Pro Division (minor-league tour) Finals at the stock show every January.’

Many of our Denver movers attend the stock show every year, taking their children and families to see some of the events and pay a visit to the animals. Denver Broncos History: The Early Years

Unlike other football teams, who have moved from city to city, the Broncos have been in Denver since the beginning. Initially a charter team of the AFL, the Broncos started playing in 1960, and joined the NFL ten years later in 1970.

Overall the Broncos didn’t play terribly well in the 1960s, and Denver almost lost the team in the mid 1960s. In the 1970s, after hiring former Stanford football coach John Ralston, the Broncos’ playing and wins began to look up, though Ralston was fired in the mid 1970s due to an overall failure to improve the team.

Denver Broncos: John Elway

As every football fan knows, John Elway, along with Terrell Davis and coach Mike Shanahan, led the Broncos to Superbowl victory two years in a row, in 1998 and 1999. In addition to the two Superbowls that the Broncos won, Elway played the position of quarterback in three other Superbowls.

By the end of his career, Elway was the “second most prolific passer” in NFL history, and he’s become a Denver legend for leading us to Superbowl victory. For a few-year stint his name was on a series of local John Elway Ford dealerships, and now he owns two eponymous high-end restaurants in the Denver area.

Denver Broncos: Today

Today the Denver Broncos are most well-known for Tim Tebow. Like John Elway, Tebow is known for his fourth-quarter comeback and his ability to improvise when he’s forced out of the pocket. While his throwing ability isn’t considered great, he’s an excellent runner, which has helped him lead the Broncos to an AFC West championship.

Tebow’s controversial tendency to publicly display his religious beliefs has generated a significant amount of press, both in Denver and across the United States; he often writes Bible verses on his eye black and prays during games.”Tebowing” has become a recognized meme: imitating Tebow’s mid-game prayers, people will get down on one knee and pray in situations that aren’t normally considered religious.

Denver is incredibly excited that the Broncos are going to the playoffs. While there’s a good chance the team won’t progress too much farther in the 2011-2012 season, the fact that we’ve made it this far gives us hope for next year.
